Investigation and analysis on awareness rate and acquiring approaches of knowledge about emergency contraception among women undergoing induced abortion
[Objective]To investigate the awareness rate and acquiring approaches of knowledge about emergency contraception among women undergoing induced abortion, provide reference for carrying out the health education.[Methods]The questionnaire survey was conducted in patients who have visited the outpatient service of our hospital to receive the induced abortion from August 1 to December 31 in 2012.The main contents of the questionnaire were awareness rate of knowledge about emergency contraception and its acquiring approaches.The results of the questionnaire were statistically analyzed according to the education background, marital status and times of induced abortion.[Results]A total of 134 valid questionnaires were returned, including 77 people with higher education background (57.46%) and 57 people with lower education background (42.54%) , as well as 61 married people (45.52%) and 73 unmarried people (54.48%) .65 people received the induced abortion for the first time (48.51%) , and 69 people had have induced abortion for more than two times (51.49%) .The awareness rate of “oral emergency contraceptives is a kind of emergency contraceptive method”reached 95.52% (128 /134) , but the awareness rates of other emergency contraception knowledge were low.In 9 items of questionnaires, the awareness rate of higher education background group was higher than that of lower education background group, the awareness rate of married group was higher than that of un-married group, and the awareness rate of more than two times induced abortion group was higher than that of the first time induced abortion group, but the differences in awareness rates of only a few items were significant (P < 0.05) .The acquiring approaches of knowledge about emergency contraception among 134 patients were different greatly.The newspaper and network were two of the most main approaches (96.27% and 61.94%) , and other acquiring approaches were all in a very low level.[Conclusion]The awareness rate of knowledge about emergency contraception among women undergoing induced abortion is relatively low in this area.The health education of emergency contraception should be strengthened, and unmarried women with lower education background are the key population.
